Keep in mind—if your SUV is still under warranty, installing a lift kit may just void it. Be sure to check.
There are various ways to lift your SUV, including:
- Leveling kits. These are placed on the front end of your SUV or truck, to raise it just a bit to meet the level of the rear end, which tends to be a bit higher normally.
- Coil lift kits. These kits include longer coil springs that will raise the vehicle by a few inches.
- Body lift kits. As the name implies, this requires a mechanic to actually unbolt the body from the frame, install spacers, and then reattach the body to the frame. It does not always result in an attractive look, however.
- Suspension lifts. The most expensive alternative, they allow a driver to lift a vehicle almost as high as they want to. For example, Monster trucks at car shows are often tricked out with suspension lift kits.
