Audi has established itself as one of the safest car manufacturers in the world. Regularly receiving near-perfect scores from the NHTSA and several Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ accolades from the IIHS, Audi vehicles lead the pack with a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety and driver assistance features.

What makes an Audi safe?

When it comes to safety, security, and driver-assistance features, there are few lists longer than Audi’s standard features included on every new Audi model.
Whether you’re driving Audi’s large luxury hatchback, the
A7
, or the Audi
Q8
SUV, you can rest assured that you and your vehicle are protected by the brand’s active and passive safety features. This package includes a suite of
Audi Pre Sense
systems, which are specifically designed to prevent collisions and minimize damage using a myriad of sensors, cameras, and radar technology
Drivers can also expect to benefit from a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features, including:

The two safety rating systems you need to know

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) provide two of the most common and reliable safety ratings for vehicles.
The
NHTSA
, established in 1993,uses a five-star rating system. Vehicles are given a single overall rating out of five. They also receive individual ratings based on their performance in tests of their crashworthiness in:
  • Frontal crashes
  • Side crashes
  • Rollover crashes
The IIHS,on the other hand, uses
six tests
to determine a vehicle’s overall safety, including front and side crash tests. They take into account a vehicle’s crashworthiness and collision mitigation capabilities. IIHS ratings include:
  • Good—the highest possible score
  • Acceptable
  • Marginal
  • Poor—the lowest possible score
