Is an electric car a zero-emission vehicle?
I wish I could ride my bike everywhere…but I’m trying to find a new car that is good for the environment. I’m wondering just how eco-friendly electric cars actually are. They’re better than cars that use fossil fuel, right? Would you say that an electric car is a zero-emission vehicle?

And it’s true, EVs are greener than Hydrogen and fossil fuel vehicles on a daily basis.** But while EVs may have no tailpipe emissions, carbon pollution can be produced when generating energy to charge them. **
Here’s what we know about electric cars being zero-emission vehicles:
- Because of their battery, BEVs create more CO2 in production than fossil fuel cars. However, over the course of their lifetime, they produce fewer emissions on an ongoing basis.
- For example, the frugal Volkswagen Golf 1.0 TSI emits 124g/km of CO2.
- Globally, the Nissan Leaf **is one of the best low-emissions EVs. We also recommend the **Chevy Bolt EV and Hyundai Ioniq EV.
Hopefully, we’ll see lots of zero-emissions vehicles (ZEVs) coming our way in the future. If you do decide an electric vehicle is right for you, make sure you have the right car insurance to fit your needs.
