If I'm a snowbird in Florida, what do I do about car insurance?

I spend about four months a year in Florida. Do I need to purchase insurance in the state?

“Anyone who has a vehicle in
Florida
for more than 90 days a year (and they don’t have to be consecutive days) is required to register the car and meet the Florida state
car insurance minimum requirements
.
So even if you’re in the state about four months a year, you’ll need to purchase
car insurance
and register your car there. You can surrender the plates and registration upon your return or keep minimum coverage if you plan on leaving the vehicle there.
To avoid re-registering your vehicle every four months in Florida or your other home state, you may want to consider keeping a vehicle in Florida permanently. That way, you can maintain minimum coverage while you’re away and increase your coverage (if you want) when you move back.
Before traveling to Florida, check your home state’s requirements as well. Their laws may vary and you could avoid having to constantly switching insurance every few months if the requirements are the same as Florida’s.
