On average, the monthly premium rates for commuter car insurance range from from $120-150, which can be more expensive than a non-commuter (or “pleasure”) insurance plan, depending on your circumstances.
When you sign up for a new
car insurance
plan, you will usually be asked to provide your average driving mileage. Based on this mileage, you’ll be assigned a certain rate. The more you drive, the more you’ll cost to insure.
Using your vehicle to commute two hours to work and back will generally cost you more than using the car just to drive to the store, for example. If you’d like to pay less for your insurance, it would be wise to use mass transit to cut down your mileage and potentially qualify for more discounts.
Get in contact with your current car insurance company to understand their mileage thresholds for different rates. If your rates are too high, you can use
