depends on a variety of factors. Most Uber drivers earn between $15 and $25 per hour, but it’s possible to make up to $50 per hour. You can choose how much you drive, when you drive, and where you’re driving—and those can all make a big difference in your salary. Here are a few more elements that can influence an Uber driver’s salary:
- Location Uber drivers in larger cities will often get paid more than those driving in smaller ones. Drivers inVirginia BeachandChesapeake, for instance, will often get more jobs at a better rate than those driving in somewhere likePetersburg.
- Driver promotions Uber often gives drivers the option of earning bonuses for completing “Quests” or driving during “Boost” promotions. For example, drivers could earn a $200 bonus for completing 200 trips in a month or earn extra money on their hourly rate by driving during surge pricing “boost” periods.
- Uber’s guaranteed earnings Uber will pay drivers a guaranteed amount for completing a certain amount of trips or deliveries in a determined time period.
- Tips Just like with the service industry, your final earnings can be boosted with the number of tips you get from your drives. Helping your passengers with luggage, offering water bottles or mints, and having a phone charger for them to use can go a long way in scoring you some extra cash.
Since Uber drivers are independent contractors, their earnings are essentially in their hands—but optimizing your driving could increase your salary.
