Can I test drive a car with a permit?

After years of waiting and *waaaay* too much studying, I finally got my permit! To celebrate, my parents are taking me to a dealership to look at some cars I’ve had my eyes on. Obviously, I’d love to get behind the wheel of one. Will I be allowed to test drive with just a permit?

Wow, that’s fantastic! You’re probably thrilled to have your permit after all of that hard work. To top it off, we’ve got good news for you: as long as one of your parents is riding in the passenger seat, you should be able to test drive a car with just a permit.
You’ll want to double-check your state’s laws because each state has different driver’s license laws. Most states, though, allow teenagers with permits to test drive a car on the condition that a licensed passenger who is older than 21 is riding shotgun.
We hope you enjoy your test drives! While you’re in the spirit of celebration, we’ve got a great way to bring savings to you and your family.
