Can I spraypaint the rims on my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
I want to change the color of my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo from green to matte black. Since the paint job cost so much, I want to handle the rims myself. Is it possible to paint the rims on my Jeep with spray paint?

I have some great news for you, you can DIY paint the rims on your
Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
and it will look great! The benefit of doing a painting the rims yourself is that it will be incredibly cheap, fun, and temporary. The paint job will last about three years and you can just peel the paint off and pick another color at any time. Here is a list of what you will need:
- Two cans of Plasti Dip black ($15 each)
- One can of Plasti Dip clear ($15 )
- One roll of painters tape (about $3)
- Deck of playing cards ($1)
- Sandpaper (about $3)
- Plastic drip cloth or shower curtain (about $3)
Then follow these simple steps:
- Lay out the drop cloth
- Wash all dirt and grime from the rims
- Sand any imperfections to ensure a smooth look
- Tape off lugnuts
- Insert playing cards around the rims so they block off any overspray from getting on the tires
- Shake the can of black Plasti Drip and apply at least two coats, waiting 10-30 minutes between each coat. (five coats are recommended to make peeling the paint off easy when it is time to change the color)
- Spray clear coat
