Integra was a dream car for many in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Pricey for its day, the Integra was the sports car everyone dreamed of driving, and few got the chance to.
, Acura made an unexpected and flashy announcement. Acura literally wrote the comeback in the stars.
Using drones in the night sky to show the original 1986 Integra, complete with iconic pop-up lights, they then showed it morphing into the new model's sleek silhouette. The 2023 Integra is set for release next year, but little is known about the actual car.
Despite the teaser image that Acura displayed on the screen after the announcement, there is no real knowledge about what we should expect the Integra to look like.
The silhouette showed us a streamlined outline and the image leaked an LED light similar to that of the TLX. Also noted in the image was a complex grille and hood with detailed surfacing leading us to believe it has been streamlined for a more modern and sleek appearance.
In a teaser tweet by Acura, you can hear the engine revving, showing that the Integra will not be electric. All the images and leaks that can be found also led us to believe that the Integra will be a two-door hatchback compact car.
When new information is released about the Integra, more will be revealed about the tech inside. At this point, it’s still unknown whether the Integra will be standard or automatic. What we do know is what Jon Ikeda, Vice President, and Acura Brand Officer, said at the announcement.
quotes him saying, "I'm thrilled to say Integra is returning to the Acura lineup with the same fun-to-drive spirit and DNA of the original, fulfilling our commitment to Precision Crafted Performance in every way — design, performance and the overall driving experience."
We expect the new model of this iconic car to be as fun to drive as the original sports car was. If Acura maintains the same roots that developed the original, there is sure to be a nostalgic appeal to the new model.
It is certain to be a hit with the adults who drove the original and the younger generation who is experiencing the magic of the Integra for the first time.
Where will the price fall and when will it be available?
No data has been released on the actual MSRP of the model yet. However, we expect it could be comparable to the other Acuras and similar vehicles. Considering that the ILX is priced at just over $26,000 it's safe to say the price range of the Integra may fall under $30,000.
Pricing in this range will help keep the car a less expensive sports option. Again, Acura has no details about the price, interior, exterior, or tech beyond the announced 2022 production release.
