In the ‘80s and ‘90s the Integra helped make
a household name. Honda's luxury division became associated with the two-door sports car, but after its time in the spotlight, the Integra disappeared.
Many car enthusiasts wondered why the iconic sports car was removed from the Acura lineup.
While the wait has been long, fans will be happy to know that Acura is bringing their Integra back. According to
The Drive
, Acura recently announced the Integra's return.
We’ve only seen what the headlight of the new Integra will look like, but we’re not the only ones who are excited, right?

History of the Acura Integra

The original Integra was released in the U.S. in 1986 as part of Acura's launch lineup.
A sporty spin-off of the Honda Civic, the Integra quickly gained a positive reputation in the growing car culture. By being sleek and famously fun to drive, the Integra helped demonstrate what front-wheel drive was capable of.
Acura's Integra continued to gain popularity throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, but Acura then removed the beloved sports car from their lineup.
In 2006, Acura released the fourth generation Integra, which became the vehicle's final release. Interestingly, in the U.S., this model was not even given the Integra name and was instead called the Acura RSX.
Since the release of the RSX, the Integra name has not been used for an Acura vehicle for more than 15 years. In addition to not making an Integra, Acura has also not made any model of two-door sports car during this time.

For fans of the Integra, the wait for the vehicle's return is finally coming to an end. At a recent event, Acura teased a new 2022 Integra model. This was just one of a series of announcements that seek to put Acura back on top of the performance vehicle market.
The announcement was more of a teaser than a detailed preview. A single photo was released to show the new Integra, or part of it anyway. This lone promotional image shows the futuristic headlight of the new sports car with the word "Integra" underneath.
Unfortunately for eager fans, they are going to have to wait to learn more about the new Integra. Until then, all we can do is speculate how the new Acura will look and feel.

With no additional information available, car experts are only able to guess what the revived Integra will be like. Since previous Integra models were based on the
Honda Civic
, it seems appropriate that the new edition will be like this as well.
Because the Integra has always been praised for being fun to drive among sports car fans, it is expected that the new Integra will offer a manual transmission.
Lastly, it is believed that the 2022 Integra will continue the trend of being a two-door car. Several months ago, someone uploaded a photo that spread around social media showing what seemed to be a new two-door Integra model. While this image was believed to be edited or inaccurate at the time, this could show how the final product will look.
There is still a lot to learn about the revived
, but fans can take solace knowing that the Integra is returning. While we will have to wait for information about the Acura Integra, you can update your insurance plan right now.
