,
Cadillac
, and, of course, GMC. Here are some of the all-time best GMC-branded cars you should know.

What makes an old car great?

Every car brand has big hits and big misses when it comes to the vehicles they put out—even GMC. So what exactly makes a great GMC different from a lackluster one?
The vehicles that we’ve included in our Top 10 list are some of GMC’s most reliable, impressive, and iconic models that they’ve ever put out. That being said, the GMC brand is essentially just another way of referring to their sister brand, Chevrolet. You’ll notice that most of our favorite GMC cars have a Chevy counterpart, though our list will only include GMC branded cars as opposed to covering all car brands owned by General Motors.

10. Chevrolet Suburban (1934-1942; 1946-Present)

Okay, so we are going to break our rule for our #10 best old GMC car of all time. The Chevrolet name might seem like a confusing choice for a list of the best GMC cars, but we’ve included the
Chevrolet Suburban
on our list because it wasn’t always a Chevy.
Named after its own utility, the Suburban was first introduced in 1937 by GMC. The SUV was later rebranded as the GMC Yukon XL (more on that later). The newest iteration of the Suburban boasts an impressive 6.2-liter V-8 and diesel engine, 420 horsepower, and a 10-speed automatic transmission.

9. GMC Yukon XL (1999-Present)

Next up on our list, we have the cousin and successor of the Chevy Suburban with the
GMC Yukon XL
. Introduced in 1999, the Yukon XL has made a name for itself in the automotive world, particularly with its second generation which premiered in 2007. The second-gen Yukon XL can seat up to nine passengers and boasts a 320-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8 engine with Flex Fuel capabilities.

8. GMC Acadia (2007-Present)

The
GMC Acadia
was introduced in 2006 and has since been an incredibly popular family SUV, partly due to its sliding seats that provide easy access to third row seating
The latest Acadia features a 3.6-liter LGX V-6 engine with a maximum 310-horsepower output. That being said, even in 2007 the Acadia offered outstanding cargo capacity, all-wheel drive traction, and a large variety of luxury upgrades.

7. GMC Sierra (1999-Present)

One of GM's best selling models of all time, the
Sierra
pick-up truck was first introduced in 1999 alongside the equally impressive
Chevrolet Silverado
In 1999 the Sierra was powered by a Vortec V-8 engine available as a 4.8-liter, 5.3-liter, or 6.0-liter version. Despite being more than 20 years old now, even the oldest Sierra models have proved incredibly reliable—averaging a maximum mileage of 250,000 to 300,000 miles

6. GMC Savana (1995-Present)

Introduced in 1995 alongside the
Chevrolet Express
, the
GMC Savana
was meant to replace the GMC Vandura as the brand’s full size van option. The Savana is incredibly versatile and can be easily converted from a passenger van to a cargo van
Since their introduction, the Savana has garnered a reputation for reliability, even being ranked as one of the most reliable cargo haulers by RepairPal.

5. GMC Terrain (2010-Present)

Rated #6 in Car & Driver’s most affordable compact SUVs of 2010, the
GMC Terrain
offered drivers a refined driving experience, a comfortable interior, and great fuel economy straight out of the gate.
In its first model year the GMC Terrain features a 2.4-liter I-4 engine, optional all-wheel drive, and a fuel economy of 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway. While the 2010 Terrain sold for upwards of $30,000 when it first hit the market, you can make a used Terrain yours today for less than $8,000!

4. GMC Sonoma GT (1992-Present)

The
GMC Sonoma GT
compact pick-up truck was originally sold as the
Chevrolet S-10
starting in 1981. By 1992, however, GMC had rebranded the pick-up as the Sonoma GT under their own label, leaving the S-10 to Chevy.
While the Sonoma GT might not look like much from the outside, this tiny pick-up can power from zero to 60 mph in less than five seconds! For a short time the Sonoma GT was even the fastest pick-up truck in the world. The Sonoma GT ranks so high on our list partly due to the fact that only 806 of these special edition Sonomas were ever built!

3. GMC Syclone (1991-1993)

The first GMC on our list that is no longer being manufactured, the GMC Syclone pick-up truck had a short two year run before it was replaced by the GMC Typhoon in 1994.
Similar to the Sonoma GT, the Syclone’s short run only saw 2995 of these pick-ups manufactured by GMC, each of them powered by a 4.3-liter turbocharged LB4 V-6 engine, whose 280-horsepower output saw the Syclone racing the likes of
Corvette
and Ferrari in the early ‘90s.

2. GMC Canyon (2004-Present)

Whether you know it as the
GMC Canyon
or the
Chevy Colorado
, this impressive mid-size pick-up narrowly misses our top spot.
Filling the gap left behind by the GMC Sonoma, the Canyon boasts the choice between a 2.5-liter, 200-horsepower I-4 engine, and a more powerful 3.6-liter, 305-horsepower V-6 engine.
In 2015 the GMC Canyon took home a number of awards from U.S. News & World Report including being ranked #3 in Compact Pickup Trucks,#18 in Used Compact Truck $20Kand up, and being a finalist for the 2015 Best Compact Truck for the Money award.

1. GMC Envoy (1997-2008)

And our favorite old GMC is the
GMC Envoy
! This midsize SUV was first introduced in 1997 and celebrated a decade-long run before being discontinued in 2008.
Featuring a 190-horsepower version of GM’s 4.3-liter Vortec V-6 engine, the 1998 Envoy also boasted available all-wheel drive, and a host of other luxury features. Later model years of the Envoy received an upgraded 4.2-liter, 270-horsepower V-6 engine with a four-speed automatic transmission.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
