2007 Nissan Murano engine oil capacity

Before you can start
changing your oil
, you will need to know how much engine oil a 2007 Nissan Murano needs.
The 3.5-liter V6 engine of your 2007 Nissan Murano has an oil capacity of 4.7 quarts or 4.5 liters. Don't let the 3.5 liters confuse you—engine displacement and oil capacity are two different things. The engine capacity means how much oil the engine can hold, while 3.5 refers to the volume of the cylinders.

What kind of oil does a 2007 Nissan Murano need?

There are several types of motor oil options out there, and luckily with the Murano, you can utilize the entire range. The manufacturer's recommendation is SAE 5W-30
Let's break down what that means. SAE is just an abbreviation for the Society of Automotive Engineers International. SAE ensures that the consistency of motor oil stays the same across brands and locations. You will only want to purchase motor oil with this logo on the bottle.
The numbers in the oil grade refer to the oil's viscosity or how thick it is. Drivers need to know how the oil will perform in cold climates at 0ºF and how it performs at 212°F, one degree above water's boiling point. The "W" stands for winter. The number 5 right before "W" tells us that this oil has a low viscosity at 0°F, and the 30 means that it's also pretty thin at a 212°F.
You can use synthetic or conventional motor oil—Murano doesn't have a specific recommendation for their models. Top-tier full synthetic has additives to boost performance and protection—this type usually costs the most, but it lasts the longest. Regular oil, on the other hand, is basic and needs to be changed more often, but it's cheaper.
Going outside of the manufactures recommendation may potentially void warranties, so you will want to be cautious if you plan on using other oil grades in your engine.

How often to change oil on a 2007 Nissan Murano

Nissan recommends changing your oil every 5,000 miles. However, if you have chosen to use a full synthetic high-mileage oil, you might be able to wait as long as 7,500-15,000 miles.

Checking your oil level and quality as part of your
basic car maintenance schedule
ensures you will know exactly when it's time for an oil change. This is what to look for:
  • Gritty or coarse motor oil
  • Dark brown or black oil (Clean oil is light brown or amber, like a cup of tea. Dirty oil is like a cup of soda)
  • A change in odor, especially anything that smells like oil, smoke, or burning
  • Unfamiliar engine noises
  • Changes in your vehicle's performance
  • Oil pressure light comes on

How to change your oil and oil filter

Time to change your oil! Here is a list of what you will need:
  • Five quarts of SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • New washer
  • Filter wrench
  • Replacement filter
To get started, let your car run for about five minutes to bit to bring the oil up to the normal operating temperature, and make sure it is parked on level ground. Then shut the engine off, open the hood, and follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Position yourself under the engine and place the drain pan under the engine block
  •  Remove the oil drain bolt and washer, allowing the oil to drain into the pan
  • Take off the old oil filter
  • Put in the new filter along with the new washer
  • Replace the oil drain bolt using a new washer and then tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Fill up with your new oil and put the fill cap back in place
You will want to let the engine run for a few minutes to ensure there aren't any leaks and check the dipstick to measure the oil level.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
No matter what, do not attempt to get rid of the oil yourself! The oil from just one oil change can contaminate over one million gallons of water if disposed of improperly.
Instead, put the old oil back into the empty oil containers and bring them to your local recycling center. Another option is to drop them off at
AutoZone
or
Advanced Auto Parts
since they have an oil recycling program.
