What Camaro Has Butterfly Doors?

What Camaro has butterfly doors?
Unfortunately, no Camaro is offered with butterfly doors—sometimes called vertical Lambo doors—as an option at the point of purchase. In fact, most Chevrolets require some post-purchase modifications to install butterfly doors. The 2020 C8 Corvette is one of the only Chevys that offers butterfly doors as a factory option.
What are butterfly doors?
But what exactly are butterfly doors, and what sorts of manufacturers offer them as factory parts?
Butterfly doors are often confused with scissor doors, gull-wing, and suicide doors, as all are types of car doors typically associated with supercars and other high-performance models, from Dodge Chargers to Ford Mustangs to Chevrolet Corvettes. Butterfly doors are unique in that they open up and out from the car’s body using hinges on the car’s A-pillar.
You’re most likely to see these extra-special doors on rare supercars, like the McLaren F1, the Enzo Ferrari, or the original ‘67 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, but even
Toyota
produced a mass-market hatchback coupe called the Sera that featured these rarities! Note that scissor doors are different as they only open upwards, thus taking up a bit less space than their butterfly counterparts. They’re famously associated with Lambos and are often called “Lamborghini doors,” but they’re often featured on concept cars, like the Mazda Hakaze crossover convertible or the Volkswagen W12 Roadster.
Another option is the roof-hinged gull-wing door, which most people recognize from the legendary DeLorean of Back to the Future fame.
Mercedes-Benz
also utilizes a gull-wing door on vehicles including the 300 SL in the 1950s and the C111 of the 1970s. Finally, the Tesla Model X
is one of the few electric vehicles that boast gull-wing doors. Last up: suicide doors. These doors open from rear hinges rather than front hinges, and they’re standard on a long lineup of full-size pickups as well as the BMW i3 hatchback, the Honda Element crossover, and tons of Rolls-Royce models.

have all featured suicide doors on various models. Can you add butterfly doors to a Camaro?
Absolutely! To add butterfly doors to a Camaro all you need is a custom vertical door kit.
Vertical Doors, Inc.
sells a variety of bolt-on hinge kits (also called “Lambo door conversion kits”) for certain Chevy Camaro models—but you can likely find other butterfly, scissor, gull-wing, or suicide door kits from other online retailers.You’ll need to make sure you choose a kit that matches your factory bolt pattern, so take your time to sort through the available Camaro vertical doors, check your part numbers, and read all of the customer reviews before you checkout. A Camaro SS and a Camaro ZL1, for example, may require slightly different hinge kits.
Because Chevys are made in the USA, it’s a good idea to look for aftermarket Camaro Lambo doors that also use domestic hardened steel. A safe vertical Lambo door hinge is key—so avoid cheap imitators.
Expect to pay around $1,300 for a vertical doors bolt-on kit, which will include all of the necessary mounting hardware. However, if you don’t know how to weld them on yourself, or if you simply want them installed in the minimum amount of time, you’ll also need to factor in the additional cost of labor.
Don’t forget that major aftermarket modifications can affect your car’s warranty as well as your insurance coverage. It’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider before making any modifications to your Camaro to see if you will need to modify your insurance policy as well.
