But an SR-22 isn’t actually an insurance policy—it is essentially a guarantee, filed by your insurer on your behalf, that you have at least the minimum amount of car insurance required by the state. In California, those minimums are as follows:- $30,000 bodily injury liability coverage per accident
You’ll have to pay 21st Century Insurance a small fee to file this form on your behalf, along with any penalties associated with your DUI conviction, before you actually hit the road. But with an SR-22 filing attached to your profile, your insurance premium will rise significantly.
