When did BMW buy Land Rover?

I recently learned that BMW owned Land Rover for a while. When did one company join the other? Has BMW always owned Land Rover, or did this happen recently?

It’s interesting to learn how car brands interact! BMW bought Land Rover (or The Rover Group) in 1994.
However,
BMW
only owned Land Rover for six years in total. In 2000, BMW sold Land Rover to
Ford
. Ford’s ownership of Land Rover was a little longer but, eight years later, Ford sold the rights to Land Rover, too.
In this 2008 sale, Land Rover was bought by Tata Motors based in Mumbai, India. The company also bought
Jaguar Cars Ltd
from Ford and combined the two brands to form a Jaguar Land Rover subsidiary. This subsidiary has been going strong since 2008 and is currently still in place.
