From shuddering transmission to exploding sunroofs, here are the most common problems in the 2015 Infiniti QX60.

background
Some of the most common problems in the 2015 Infiniti QX60 are premature transmission failure and early breakdown of the timing chain.
When you purchase a new or used vehicle, you don’t typically want to focus on what could go wrong in the future. But having a good idea of what’s to come can help you financially prepare for repairs in advance, and keep a closer eye on how specific parts are performing—or not performing.
Though the 2015 Infiniti QX60 is widely praised for its roominess and easy-to-use safety tech, it’s not without its share of concerns. That’s why

The most common 2015 Infiniti QX60 problems

To start things off on a good note: the 2015 Infiniti QX60 interior is very well-loved. Seating is spacious and comfortable for all seven passengers (even in the third row), and you can easily adjust the seats to accommodate a car seat or rearrange leg room.
That said, only 38% of owners said that they would purchase a 2015 Infiniti QX60 again, according to Consumer Reports. While some of this dissatisfaction could be due to more desirable competition (the 2015 Lexus GX and Lexus RX received much better satisfaction scores), some might come from prevalent powertrain issues.
Most significantly, drivers have reported engine shuddering, stalling, or vibrating while accelerating, ultimately diagnosed as a premature transmission failure. The cost to fully replace a 2015 Infiniti QX60’s transmission is between $3,800 and $7,000. Out of the 61 total complaints the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recorded for this model, 23 of them are related to transmission failure. So while it’s rare for your Infiniti’s transmission to fail, the transmission has a high probability of being the QX60’s trouble spot.
A rattling noise in the engine often predates an incoming timing chain failure, as well. The timing chain tensioners and guide rails have been known to wear out early in the 2015 Infiniti QX60, resulting in loose pieces falling into the oil pan. Obviously, this isn’t something you can drive around with for long—but a repair will usually cost between $1,600 and $1,800
A less serious common problem is that the throttle body is prone to carbon buildup. After drivers wipe it out, they frequently report unpredictable power surges. Fortunately, this can be resolved by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, or resetting the computer.
Some other commonly reported 2015 Infiniti QX60 problems include the following:
  • Airbag sensors not detecting adults in the passenger seat
  • Engine shutting off while accelerating
  • Exploding sunroof
  • Loose front hub assembly bolts (resulting in brake caliper separation)
  • Radiator cooling fan malfunction
  • Moisture in headlight housing causing headlight shortages
There are three official recalls for the 2015 Infiniti QX60. Two pertain to the passenger airbag deployment sensors and one is for under-torqued fasteners in the front hub assembly. Strangely, no formal recall addresses the transmission or timing chain failure, which has predictably left many drivers frustrated when they encounter this problem—especially in newer vehicles with low mileage.

Is the 2015 Infiniti QX60 reliable?

Even with its range of common problems, the 2015 Infiniti QX60 still receives average to above-average reliability ratings for a full-size luxury SUV
That said, luxury SUVs aren’t particularly well-known for having high reliability ratings. The average rating for the luxury full-size SUV class is only 2.5/5, but the 2015 Infiniti QX60 earned a 3.5/5 for reliability from RepairPal.
J.D. Power marks the 2015 Infiniti QX60 with a higher score of 77/100, but this is a combined quality and reliability rating. Though mechanical issues can be a concern for the QX60, it’s still praised for its quality materials, so this may have helped keep that score at an “average” amongst its class.
Each 2015 Infiniti QX60 owner spends an average of $639 per year on repairs, which is actually much lower than the $1,127 per year average for full-size luxury SUVs as a whole. This perhaps further indicates that while failing transmission can be a common issue, it is still very uncommon on a wider scale.
