Arguably the best year for a used Subaru Crosstrek is 2022. It has modern safety features and great reviews, with no recalls and very few complaints. Of course, this model is barely a year old, so expect these numbers to increase over time.
If you’re looking for a more affordable option, consider a 2014 to 2017 Crosstrek, skipping the two “bad” years. If you’re a fan of Android Auto or Apple Carplay, you sadly won’t get either in these older Crosstrek models—both systems were implemented in the 2018 model year—but they’re still phenomenal in the snow and have great safety features for their age.
The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek had seven recalls and 231 complaints, and the 2018 Crosstrek had five recalls and 156 complaints. Those aren’t shocking numbers of course, but we’d say the 2018 and 2019 Crosstreks are likely the car’s worst years, despite the Crosstrek having never really experienced a “bad” year.
