What is the driving age in New Mexico?

I’m 14 and pretty stoked about learning to drive soon. But we’re moving to New Mexico next month, and I don’t know the rules there. What is the driving age in New Mexico?

You’ll have to wait just a little longer before you can get behind the wheel because the driving age in
New Mexico
is 15. You have to be 15 years old in order to apply for a
learner’s permit
.
Here’s what you’ll need to do:
  • Enroll in one of New Mexico’s state-approved driver education programs
  • Bring proof of identity, proof of New Mexico residency, and your Social Security card to the MVD
  • Pass a vision test
  • Take the written exam
  • Pay the $10.00 licensing fee
If you want to get a jump on studying for the written exam, you can find the New Mexico Driver Manual on the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) website.
A New Mexico learner’s permit only allows you to drive under supervision. This means that any time you get behind the wheel of a car, you must be accompanied by an adult who is 21 or older and has held a driver’s license for at least 3 years.
After you’ve had your learner’s permit for six months, you’ll be permitted to schedule a road test as long as:
  • You don’t have any traffic violations
  • You have completed at least 50 hours of driving practice
  • You have completed at least 10 hours of nighttime driving
If you pass, you’ll be granted a provisional license. With this license, you are allowed to drive alone except between the hours of 12 a.m. and 5 a.m.
You can get your full license once you turn 18, after completing a DWI/DUI awareness class. You can then schedule an appointment with your local MVD office, where you’ll just need to fill out a form and pay an $18.00 fee.
Keep in mind that before you can get behind the wheel in New Mexico, you need to have
