In New Hampshire, you must be at least 15 ½ to start learning to drive. New Hampshire does not issue learner’s permits. You can apply for your Youth Operator’s License at 16 after completing at least 40 hours of supervised driving with a licensed driver over the age of 25.

How to get your Youth Operator’s License in New Hampshire

If you’re under the age of 18, you will apply for your Youth Operator’s License.
In order to apply for this license:
  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • You must have taken an approved driver education program, many of which are offered at local high schools or
    commercial driver schools

  • You must have logged at least 40 hours of supervised driving—10 of which must be logged at night. Use this driving
