What is an abstract driving record in Texas?

What's the difference between a regular Texas driving record and an abstract driving record? I don't understand how I can have multiple records.

A Type AR, or certified abstract of a complete driver record, summarizes your complete driving record, including any previous violations, charges, suspensions, etc.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) supplies several types of Texas Driver Records, each of which displays slightly different information. While the abstract contains all the same information as a Type 3A record, you cannot use it to sign up for a defensive driving course.
If you’d like to request your own driving record abstract, you can do so at your local DMV branch or online at dps.texas.gov. A certified abstract Texas driver record costs $20.
