What does TPMS mean?

I was driving my car home and a TPMS light came on. I didn’t know what the light meant so I kept driving until I reached my destination, but I want to make sure I fix the problem before I drive my car again. What does TPMS mean?

It’s always best to address any warning lights in your car before getting behind the wheel again.
TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The TPMS light is a horseshoe-shaped light with an exclamation point in the center, which illuminates when a car’s tires are over- or underinflated.
When your tire pressure is off, it may cause premature tire wear, possible tire failure, and unsafe driving conditions.
If you’re unsure if your tires are overinflated or underinflated, you can
check your tire pressures
with a pressure gauge and add air to your vehicle’s respective pressure specification.
You can find your vehicle’s manufacturer recommended PSI level on the driver’s door jamb of most vehicles. It can also be found in the owner’s manual.
