What do the center console buttons mean on my 2020 Ford Escape?

I just bought a new 2020 Ford Escape, but I’m not sure what all the buttons mean near the transmission selector. I’ve tried pushing a few of them to see what happens (probably not a great idea). Do you know what the center console buttons on a 2020 Ford Escape mean?

Great question!
The 2020
Ford Escape
center console buttons have six distinctly different purposes:
  • Emergency Parking Brake: “P” icon directly under transmission selector. These brakes work independently from your vehicle’s normal brakes and should be used if they fail.
  • Auto Hold: Hand icon also under transmission selector. This button keeps your vehicle stopped without having to continually press the brake pedal.
  • Drive Modes: Top left button. Press this button to choose how you want your vehicle to drive, based on road conditions and circumstances.
  • Parking Assist: Top right button. An automated system that helps you park with precision.
  • Backup Sensors: Bottom right button. Motion-activated sensors that let you and others know when you are too close to an object or person (when moving in reverse).
  • Auto Start/Stop: Bottom left button. An automatic system that will shut down or restart your vehicle in order to avoid unnecessary idling and reduce fuel consumption.
You’ll want to keep your new ride protected while on the road. With
