2021 Ford Escape configurations
At its base tier of options, the 2021 Ford Escape comes in four trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The first three trims—S, SE, and SEL—come standard with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine and front-wheel drive (FWD), while the Titanium gets a power upgrade to a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive (AWD).
If you like to roll with the standard, you could stick with those configurations and be on your way. However, all of these trims were made available with some customization options, allowing you to pick your drivetrain at least. And once we move out of the base trim, your options expand to include a choice in powertrain and cosmetic details, as well as the addition of more and more comfort, convenience, and tech features the higher in the lineup we go.
In all but the base trim, take your pick of the standard EcoBoost engine, a Hybrid, or a Plug-In Hybrid. The SE, SEL, and Titanium trims each also have their own cosmetic package upgrade:
SE Sport Appearance +$2,495
All options considered, there are over 15 available configurations for the 2021 Ford Escape. Let’s go through some of the most popular options for a look and what each would give you.
Ford Escape S with FWD
The base trim of the 2021 Ford Escape comes standard with its fair share of safety and convenience features, all wrapped up at an affordable price. The most inexpensive Escape offers:
60/40 split-fold rear seat
SYNC infotainment system with a 4.2-inch display
Pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking
Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert
Ford Escape S with AWD
For a little over $2,000 more, you can upgrade the Escape’s starting trim to include all-wheel drive with all the above-listed features. It is worth noting, though, that your fuel economy gets knocked down a peg or two. You’ll go from an EPA-estimated 28 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined with FWD to 26 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined.
Ford Escape SE with FWD
If your ideal driving experience includes more technology features that boost your connection and a little more in the way of cosmetic styling, consider the SE which adds:
SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch display
6.5-inch LCD instrument panel
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
Chrome grille, door handles, and exterior trim
Ford Escape SE Sport Appearance Package
This package was designed for the drivers who prefer a blacked-out look. For an additional $2,495, you’ll enjoy the SE upgrades plus a black grille, front and rear bumpers, side mirrors, and upper window and beltline molding. The SE Sport Appearance tires also get a new look—19-inch machine-faced Ebony-painted aluminum wheels.
Ford Escape SE Hybrid
Starting price: $27,605-$32,650
From the SE on, hybrid lovers will have some more eco-friendly powertrain options. Ford made an SE Hybrid engine available for $27,605, and an SE Plug-In Hybrid available for $32,650. Both function with a 2.5-liter hybrid or plug-in hybrid four-cylinder engine—you can decide if you want the electric motor as a low-power backup (hybrid) or the primary power source (plug-in).
Ford Escape SEL
The next rung on the trim ladder is the SEL. This configuration still comes standard with FWD and the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine, but you have the choice to upgrade to AWD and/or the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine. But that’s not all! The SEL also increases your comfort and convenience features:
SecuriCode invisible keypad
10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support
Dual-zone automatic temperature control
Ford Escape SEL Stealth Package with AWD
If you’re itching for that blacked-out look but refuse to give up on the heated front seats and steering wheel, the SEL Stealth with AWD package could be your solution. In addition to the SEL features, you’ll also see ActiveX seating material with Miko Suede inserts, black badging, grille, side mirrors, upper window and beltline molding, and front and rear skid plates, and a resurgence of the SE Sport Appearance’s 19-inch machine-faced Ebony-painted aluminum wheels.
Ford Escape Titanium
At the top of the trim tier, we have the Ford Escape Titanium. This high-end trim comes standard with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine and AWD, includes most of the SEL features, and adds:
LED headlamps and fog lamps
Rain-sensing windshield wipers
Hands-free foot-activated liftgate
Auto-dimming rearview mirror
Interior ambient lighting
Universal garage door opener
10-speaker B&O premium sound system
Voice-activated navigation system
12.3-inch configurable LCD digital instrument cluster
Intelligent adaptive cruise control
Ford Escape Titanium Elite Package
Now, the Titanium is top-of-the-line, but the Titanium Elite Package puts this trim over the luxury edge. With all the features of the previous configuration, the Titanium Elite Package gives you:
Leather-wrapped steering wheel
Silver front and rear skid plates
19-inch Luster Nickel-painted aluminum wheels
All without breaking $40k! The 2021 Ford Escape configurations could have something for everyone—even if you’re on a budget.
