My family is taking a trip to Charlotte, North Carolina next year. We usually begin researching destinations far in advance so we have time to make reservations and plan activities. Can you provide us with the best outdoor activities in Charlotte, NC?

You’ll have a blast! There are so many great options to choose from, but some of the best outdoor activities in Charlotte,
North Carolina
include berry picking, kayaking, visiting Charlotte’s greenways, touring the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, and swimming. - Berry picking: One of the best feelings is supporting local farms—and literally eating the fruits of your labor. In April and May, visit Hunter Farm to pick your own strawberries. Be sure to also take a wagon ride and visit the farm on Fridays for food, drinks, live music, and local artisans.
- Kayaking: Rent kayaks and paddle around Lake Haigler from May through September. You can also rent stand-up paddleboards if that’s more your speed.
- Charlotte greenways: The greater Charlotte region offers 37+ miles of greenways for running, strolling, and cycling. They start in Huntersville and go as far as South Carolina. Check out Little Sugar Creek, Six Mile Creek, and Four Mile Creek.
- Swimming: Cool off in Lake Norman. Ramsey Creek Beach has the only public-access swimming beach on the lake. If you’re feeling really adventurous, rent some jet skis!
- Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden: Belmont is about a 20-minute drive outside of the city, but the 380-acre botanical garden is worth the drive! Kids love the Orchid Conservatory and North Carolina butterfly habitat.
