How much should my car insurance cost?

How do I know if I am overpaying for my insurance? I just started my own policy and everyone I know pays less than I do. Why would this be?

“Insurance is specifically tailored to each driver, if your rate is too high, ask your agent why and hopefully they can help you bring it down.
Comparing insurance prices with friends and family can be challenging since there can be so many differences. Insurance companies use some of the following as rating factors:
  • Age
  • Insurance history
  • Gender
  • Marital status
  • Zip Code
  • Driving record
  • Weather and climate
As you can see, these are different for everyone and not something you can control. You mentioned it is your first policy. The longer you go with continuous coverage, the lower your rate will become!
Check to make sure you are getting the following discounts if applicable:
Sometimes the company that you’re with just doesn’t have the best rates for you, and that is ok! Don’t be afraid to shop around for one that does.
The easiest way to select a new insurance company is to get quotes from multiple insurance carriers simultaneously.
Using an insurance comparison app like
Jerry
can help! Jerry shops with over 50 insurance providers and brings the lowest options right to your phone. They will even help you cancel the policy with the prior insurance company.”
