I’m on the waiting list to get the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Hybrid, my first foray into the world of hybrid vehicles. A friend of mine recently upgraded their hybrid’s battery and loves it, so I'm thinking of doing the same to mine. What does a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV battery upgrade cost?

battery upgrade is one of the more expensive car modifications you can do. For the cost of the battery itself, you can expect to pay between $2,000 and $8,000 for the part and the labor required to install it. Hybrid batteries
are quite different from the battery your car uses to power your headlights and other electrical systems. The 20kWh 350-volt lithium-ion battery in your Mitsubishi
has a lifespan between eight and ten years. And once it’s out of commission, there is no jumping
or reviving it—you’ll need to purchase a new one. So, if your car is on the newer side and still under warranty—which for Mitsubishi’s is ten years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first—there isn’t a need to upgrade or replace your hybrid battery. If you elect to replace the hybrid battery with an aftermarket part, it won’t be covered by your warranty and you could end up paying a fortune for any necessary repairs.
Or, if your hybrid’s battery is at the end of its useful lifespan and it is no longer under warranty, then it’s time to cough up a couple of Gs to replace it.
