What is a hybrid battery?
A lot of my friends have been buying electric vehicles and hybrids in the past few years. While I know the basics of how an electric car works, I’m not certain about a hybrid. What exactly is a hybrid battery and how do they work?

Think of a hybrid car as the best of both worlds: a gas engine that combines with a battery to produce the most efficient tandem possible, but without having a limited range. Within this hybrid setup, a hybrid battery is a 12-volt lead-acid battery that creates better efficiency in terms of gas usage and overall mileage.
Moreover, hybrid batteries are a type of rechargeable battery. Through a process called regenerative braking, meaning a hybrid battery recharges every time you press the brake or come to a stop.
As a result, a hybrid battery won’t lose its charge like a traditional battery until it reaches the end of its useful life. In most cases, the life of a hybrid battery is around six to 12 years. Factors that determine how long a battery will last include:
- Whether you stay on top ofroutine maintenance
- Temperature fluctuations and humidity where you live
- How often you drive the vehicle
Because the battery works in unison with a gas engine, a hybrid car produces up to 35% better fuel economy than gas-powered engines alone.
