However, if you choose to go this route, keep in mind that these battery packs offer a substantially lower driving range.
You’ll also need to remember that these older battery packs might not be an exact fit for your newer model car. And because of this, there might be some additional labor costs involved to make the older batteries fit properly in your 2021 model.
While you can choose to put an old battery in your Leaf to save some cash, it probably isn’t the smartest decision unless, of course, your car is no longer covered under warranty. If that’s the case, and you aren’t concerned about a reduced driving range, a smaller and cheaper battery pack might work for you.

- Try to avoid high temperatures. High temperatures contribute to your battery’s accelerated degradation. If you live in a hot state, it may be difficult to avoid the heat at all times, but you should try to park indoors whenever possible and abstain from pushing your car too hard when it’s hot out.
- Hold off on the fast charger. A DC fast charger can take your Leaf to 80% state of charge (SOC) in around 30 minutes, but it comes at a price—namely, your battery will wear out faster. To prolong the life of your battery pack, stick to a Level 1 or Level 2 household adaptor whenever possible.
