How many spark plugs are in a V12 engine?

I told my buddy I’d do some work on his sports car, but I’ve got to admit: I’ve never worked on a V12 engine before. I’m feeling ok about the work itself, but I need to brush up on some of the finer details. How many spark plugs does a V12 engine have?

It’s not every day that you come across a V12 engine! There are 12 spark plugs in a V12 engine. You can easily remember this (or figure it out on your own in the future) because there is typically only one spark plug per cylinder in a standard car engine.
That means that four-cylinder engines have four spark plugs, V6 engines have six spark plugs, V8 engines have eight spark plugs, and so on.
It also means that replacing the spark plugs in an engine with more cylinders is going to be more expensive—there are more to replace, after all!
Replacement spark plug costs
will vary depending on the make and model of the car, but keep in mind that OEM parts will likely be more expensive since V12 engines are typically reserved for higher-end sports cars.
Still, even if it’s a little pricier to replace your spark plugs now, it’s better not to put off this type of
routine vehicle maintenance
—it could save you from dealing with major
car repair
costs in the future.
