How long should I practice driving before I take my driving test?

I just got my permit and I’m already looking forward to having my license. I really want to practice as much as possible, so I can pass my test the first time. How long does it take most people to pass the test?

Congratulations on getting your permit! And good for you for being so proactive. On average, it takes around 40 hours of lessons with a driving instructor and 20 hours of additional practice to pass the driving test. For most beginner drivers, this takes around four to five months**.
Here are some tips to ace your driving test:
  • Take a lesson with a driving instructor or another licensed driver right before the test. This will help you get in the right state of mind.
  • Stay calm and remember that the first 30 seconds of the test are the most important. Take your time when putting the car in gear and pulling away from the DMV.
  • Listen carefully to the examiner’s instructions and if you don’t understand something, ask them for clarification.
  • Be prepared for adverse weather. It’s recommended that you practice in all kinds of weather so that you’re ready for anything.
Happy practicing! Go crush that driving test!
