How do you remove a car from insurance?

I’m giving my old car to my son. He doesn’t live with me, and he has his own insurance policy, so I’d like to remove the car from my policy without canceling the whole policy. How do I remove the car from my insurance so he can put it on his?

It’s nice that you’re giving your son your old car!
Since you’re removing your old car from your policy, you’re effectively canceling the policy on the car.
To do this, you’ll want to call your
insurance
company or use their online portal to cancel the policy on the vehicle. You may have to pay a cancelation fee, which is often a flat rate or a percentage of what remains on your premium. In some instances, you may be eligible for a refund.
Your insurer also may require you to send an official letter of cancellation. If this is the case, make sure to format the letter correctly and sign and date the document. Be sure to note that you’re only canceling the policy on one of your vehicles if you have multiple cars on the same policy.
If you decide to change policies for the car you’re keeping, shop for insurance with
