How do you put an Alfa Romeo in Neutral with a dead battery?

I had to leave my car in a random Target parking lot after my battery died and I’m worried that something might happen to it. How can I put my Alfa Romeo in Neutral to tow it if I don’t have any power?

Unfortunately, you cannot put an Alfa Romeo in Neutral when the battery is dead. To tow your car, you’ll need to do one of two things:
  • Connect your car to a charger to gain enough power to shift gears. The issue with this option is that if your parking brake is engaged, you’ll need to release it separately. Some drivers suggest that you run a screw into a hole on the left front underside of the transmission to release the brake, but this procedure can be dangerous—particularly near other moving vehicles.
  • Use a wheel dolly so that you don’t have to shift gears to tow your vehicle to a shop.
If you’d like to double-check that your vehicle is safe in the meantime, though, take a look at your
