How do you power wash your car engine?
I have a power washer and you would not believe how nicely it can clean. I've been looking for new things to clean with it because it's satisfying. My car engine is pretty dirty; can I power wash it? How do I power wash my car engine?

Power washing your engine often gets overlooked, but it’s something you should do regularly. Be careful, though. Don’t just pop the hood and go for it. A lot of equipment resides under the hood that could get damaged.
Make sure your car is off and cool. Never touch a hot engine.
First, locate sensitive electrical components and cover these in plastic wrap. These include:
- Spark plugs
- Electrical connections
- Alarm system
- Distributor cap
- Battery wiring
- Alternator
- Fuse and relay boxes
Next, you want to use a degreaser. You’ll use this to clean the engine and loosen up any dirt and grease. Let it soak for a couple of minutes then, if any spots look particularly dirty, add another layer.
Grab your power washer, lower the pressure (or hold it further away from the car), be careful of those electrical components you covered earlier, and clean off all the degreaser.
Dry everything and repeat the process for any spots that didn’t get as clean as you wanted.
