How do toll roads work in Texas?

I just moved to Austin and it seems the quickest way to get around is by toll road. How do I use them?

Congratulations on your move! Using toll roads is easy in
Texas
—simply drive as you normally would and pay your toll when you exit the toll road. If you sign up for one of the following, you’ll be billed automatically:
  • TxTag
  • EZ Tag
  • TollTag
  • PIKEPASS
  • K-Tag
If you prefer to use the pay-by-plate system, you’ll receive a bill at the address on your
vehicle registration
.
Some toll roads only offer automatic payments or pay by plate, while others have toll booth operators where you can pay a toll with cash. If you do not have cash, the toll booth operator will issue you a ticket with instructions to
pay online
.
Before you finish settling in, make sure you update your
car insurance
to meet
Texas car insurance laws
. It’s easy to do when you use the
Jerry
app. Jerry is a
licensed broker
that helps you find the best policy for the lowest price—and handles your switchover from start to finish so that you don’t have to deal with any hassles. Download the app to learn more.
