How do rolly pollies get into my house?
I keep finding rolly pollies in my house. I don’t know why or what I’m doing to attract these pests. How can I stop rolly pollies from getting into my house?

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve got a pillbug problem! The good news is that pillbugs—sometimes called rolly pollies—are one the least problematic pests to have. Rolly pollies get into your house through any gaps they can find. Usually, they come in under doors or through rips in your screens.
Unlike most pests, pillbugs aren’t coming into your home because you’ve left food out or anything like that. Pillbugs need a lot of moisture and they live off decaying plant matter. If the weather is too dry, or if they can’t find enough food, they may come inside looking for something to eat. Unless you like to leave dead plants lying around, there won’t be any food for them. Even if they find food, they’ll dry out and die soon after coming inside.
Fortunately, pillbugs aren’t harmful to you, your pets, or your home. You can probably just leave them be, and they will stop showing up once there’s a little more moisture outside. If you’re eager to prevent pillbugs from getting into your house, here’s what you can do:
- Keep your garbage sealed tight. Pillbugs aren’t normally trash scavengers. But if you tend to leave a lot of produce in your garbage, they may come around. Take any old produce out to the trash right away.
- Keep your houseplants healthy. If you like to keep houseplants, make sure they are not dead or wilting. Trim them regularly and toss and decaying plant matter outside.
- Seal up any entry points. Seal up any gaps in your foundation, around windows and doors, and near vents.
- Water your lawn. Pillbugs are only going to come inside if their habitat is too dry. Keeping your lawn watered will ensure they stay in the yard and out of your house.
