How do I get a refund on car insurance?

I paid off my car loan, but I had additional coverage on my car insurance because my lender required it. Can I get a refund on my insurance?

“Congratulations on paying off your
car loan
! That’s huge!
When it comes to getting a refund for your
car insurance
policy, the best thing to do is call your provider.
While you can remove any additional coverage not
required by your state
, getting refunded will depend on how you paid for your policy.
If you paid for your policy in full, you should get a refund for any unused premium. If you pay monthly, you likely won’t receive a refund.
When you pay monthly, you are paying for your car insurance and coverage as you use it. Canceling or removing coverage will reduce your future monthly payments, but you won’t get a refund back for what you already used.
As every company is different, be sure to follow up with your insurance company first. An agent can give you all the details regarding policies changes and refunds.
