How do I find out who's insuring my car?

I know that I have car insurance, but I’m not sure who my insurer is. I also want to review my policy, and update it to save money. What should I do to find out who’s insuring my car?

Knowing your
car insurance
information is important for more than just saving money! If you get pulled over or find yourself in an accident—you’ll need to provide your insurance information. Luckily, you can use these tips to find out who’s insuring your car:
  • Check your glove compartment and center console for
    proof of insurance
or an insurance card. These will list your insurance company and policy number.
  • If that doesn’t work, look through your emails for any messages or payments involving an insurance provider. Most insurance companies now provide paperless statements, which they send via email
  • Since you’re paying for your policy, you should also be able to find your provider by checking your bank payments. Look for any monthly payments addressed to providers—that will likely be your insurance company!
  • If all else fails, you can also check with the DMV. The DMV has records of all drivers and their insurance companies—and can likely tell you your insurance information!
Once you’ve identified your insurance company, you can call them or check their website to manage and review your current policy.
