How do I connect Bluetooth to a BMW E60?

I got a great deal on a used BMW E60. However, the seller didn’t have the owner’s manual, so I’m at a bit of a loss on how to use the Bluetooth system. What do I need to do to connect Bluetooth from my BMW E60 to my phone?

The BMW E60 was one of the first BMW models to offer Bluetooth, however, it’s only for making and receiving calls—not for streaming music. As long as you’re good with that, here’s how to connect Bluetooth to a BMW E60:
  1. Go to Communication on the iDrive multimedia screen.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Bluetooth.
  4. Select Phone.
  5. Choose Pair New Phone.
  6. Select Start Pairing.
  7. The iDrive system will then give you the name of the connection. It’s usually BMW followed by five digits.
  8. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
  9. Select the BMW connection name.
