How do I change gears when driving a car?

I did some research on cars and I found out I can get a better deal on a manual. The only problem is that I have no idea how to drive a stick shift. What’s the best way to shift gears when I’m driving a car?

Manuals are not only cheaper in most cases, but they also act as a
theft deterrent
because so many people can’t drive a stick!
To change gears when driving a car that has a manual transmission, follow these steps:
  • Ease off the accelerator pedal completely.
  • Push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor with your left foot.
  • Take your right hand off the steering wheel and place it on the shift knob.
  • While the clutch is still completely pressed, gently but directly move the shift knob to your desired gear.
  • Slowly release the clutch pedal while simultaneously giving the car more gas.
Keep in mind that you’re likely to kill the car several times before you get this technique down. As a result, you may want to practice on a low-traffic street or in a parking lot until you’ve mastered the art of shifting gears.
But before you experience the joy of driving a stick shift, make sure you have the right car insurance at the best price possible by downloading the
