How do I become an insurance appraiser for cars?

I am graduating high school in a couple of years and I love cars. The mechanical component of cars I just can’t wrap my head around. And I’m not really a salesperson type. I always thought it might be nice to do insurance appraising. How do I become an insurance appraiser?

It’s a great time to be thinking about what you want to do and knowing what sounds interesting to you. Since almost every state in the USA requires drivers to have insurance there will always be work within the insurance industry.
In order to become an insurance appraiser you will need:
  • A high school diploma (or GED)- If you want to continue your education or do some vocational training this can help, but the minimum is that you graduate high school or get paperwork that’s equivalent to that diploma
  • If you choose to go to college, business, legal, or accounting can help. There are a ton of different facets to insurance so if you learn about the
    types of insurance
you can focus on the division you want to concentrate on. Some companies prefer if you get an ** associate’s degree**.
  • Become certified by The Bureau of Certified Auto Appraisers or The American Society of Certified Auto Appraisers
  • Take your state’s licensing test and get your license.
  • Apply for jobs at insurance companies or become an independent contract worker.
