How can I make my electric Club Car go faster?

I have an electric Club Car golf cart. I like driving it, and I get around the course okay, but I’d like to go faster if possible. Are there any ways to upgrade my electric club without breaking the law?

The easiest way to increase your Club Car’s speed is perfectly legal: install a more powerful
electric motor
. We suggest using a Series Wound DC Speed Motor, which has a much smaller field coil. This means that your electric Club will be able to go faster thanks to a weaker magnetic field produced by this type of motor, which allows the armature to spin at a much higher RMP.
This is different from installing a torque motor, which would grant more power, but produces a stronger magnetic field, meaning your golf cart’s armature will be spinning far more slowly.
The second option is to upgrade two key components—the Solenoid Contactor Relay and the Electronic Speed Controller, which are located between the motor and the battery bank. By upgrading to a solenoid and speed controller that can handle more amps, you’ll prevent your electric motor from being bottlenecked at a lower amperage, which would keep you from accelerating as quickly. Add some grippier tires and a fresh
battery
, and you just might tack on an extra 5-10 mph to your electric Club Car’s top speed.
