While both the standard RS7 and the RS7 Performance models are equipped with the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the models don’t produce the same amount of horsepower.
The base RS7’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produces 560 horsepower @ 6,600 RPM and 516 pound-feet of torque @ 1,750 to 5,500 RPM. Meanwhile, the RS7 Performance model, despite being equipped with the same 4.0-liter V8 engine, produces 605 horsepower @ 6,100 to 6,800 RPM and 516 pound-feet of torque @ 1,500 to 6,000 RPM. The RS7 Performance is able to produce more horsepower, despite having the same powertrain, thanks to more efficient intercooler heat exchangers, a reprogrammed engine computer, and revised camshafts that activate new exhaust valves.
The RS7’s additional performance capabilities power the sportback from zero to 60 miles per hour in as little as 3.6 seconds and allow the vehicle to reach maximum speeds of 190 miles per hour. That being said, that extra power comes at a price.
In 2017, the RS7 Performance model would have cost drivers $130,500 compared to the base RS7’s $111,600. Today,
