Opening a car dealership is no small undertaking, but it can be an incredibly lucrative business! In the state of Iowa, there are six major steps you’ll need to take to get your car dealership license:
- Establish a place of business and pass all zoning requirements.
- Pass a location inspection.
- Buy an Iowa motor vehicle dealer bond. Depending on your credit score, you may pay as little as $700 or as much as $11,000.
- Complete the Iowa car dealer license application.
- Take a pre-licensing course.
- Submit your application along with proof of each of these steps, plus a copy of the agreement with the vehicle manufacturer you are partnering with (for the sale of new cars).
