Does the Tesla Model 3 have manual transmission?
Do any of the Teslas come with a manual transmission, or just automatic? I’m specifically wondering about the Model 3.

The
Tesla Model 3
has never been produced with an option for manual transmission. In fact, Tesla does not manufacture any manual vehicles.You’ll find that almost all electric vehicles are automatic. Why? Unlike gas and diesel cars, which need multiple gears to navigate usable torque and power, an electric vehicle doesn’t need a clutch or gears. A small handful of EV makers will add in gears, simply to maintain a traditional drive feel, but it’s certainly a rarity.
What’s more, you’ll have to pay a pretty penny for them:
- The 2022Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismois available with a two-speed rear axle transmission and has a starting MSRP of approximately $187,600.
- The 2022Audi e-tron GTcan be paired with a two-speed automated manual rear axle transmission and has a starting sticker price of $101,000.
Considering the fact that the Tesla Model 3 starts at around $46,990, you might want to reconsider whether a manual transmission is worth all the extra dough—that is, if you’re committed to an all-electric powertrain.
