Does home insurance cover a car in a garage?

Our car was parked in our garage last night. Someone broke in and smashed the windows of our car and keyed it. Would our home insurance cover the car since it was in the garage?

Although your car was parked in your garage, your home insurance unfortunately won’t cover your car.
To have the damage to your car covered, you’d need
comprehensive coverage
on your car insurance policy. Comprehensive covers non-collision-related incidents, like theft and
vandalism
.
You’ll want to get in contact with both your home insurance and car insurance companies to determine your next steps.
Keep in mind: Vandalism and theft are covered perils under a home insurance policy—which does cover your garage. If the person who broke in damaged your garage in the process, your home insurance will cover the damage. Additionally, if any personal property was stolen from your car, your home insurance will cover that too.
