Does defensive driving remove a ticket from your record in Texas?

My car insurance premiums skyrocketed after getting a speeding ticket and I’d like to lower them. I was told to look into defensive driving courses. Will this help?

Yes—completing a
defensive driving course
can remove a ticket from your record in Texas, but it won’t eliminate the fees associated with the ticket or any court costs you incurred.
The most common traffic tickets in Texas are:
Being convicted of one or more of these offenses could result in legal penalties and other consequences like jail time, harsh fines, license suspension, car impoundment, higher insurance rates, points added to your driving record, or community service.
While taking a defensive driving course might remove your conviction from your record, you must be eligible for it.
If any of the following scenarios apply to you, you are not eligible to have your ticket dismissed:
  • You have a commercial driver’s license
  • You have taken court-ordered defensive driving in Texas in the previous year
  • You don’t have a valid
    Texas driver’s license
  • You were driving 95 mph or more (or 25 mph over the posted speed limit)
If you don’t qualify for a defensive driving course, other options include fighting the ticket in court, attending traffic school, and maintaining a
clean driving record
going forward.
