Do electric cars have a cvt transmission?

Getting an
electric car
is fantastic—congrats on your future purchase. Unfortunately, electric vehicles do not have a continuously-variable transmission (CVT). If you were one of those people who started driving with a manual transition, then you may understand the concept of changing gears. Gears allow for performance-related features like fast acceleration and maintaining cruising speeds etc. This requires the correct gear shifts combined with the right amount of gear rotations to give the driver an adequate amount of power.
CVT transmissions use belts instead of gears and require no gear shifts. This type of single-speed transmission takes a lot of the control out of the driver’s hands, giving them more flexibility to maintain a constant level of performance regardless of speed. Other advantages are smoother acceleration and better fuel economy.
Electric car engines have a lot fewer moving parts than gas-fueled combustion engines. In fact, they only have one gear. So while they don’t use CVT transmissions, they also use a type of single-speed transmission. An electric company, Bosch, believes that a gearless CVT could optimize EV performance even more in the future.
