Can electric cars be stolen?

Do I need to be worried about parking my electric car on the street at night? I know that electric cars may be particularly desirable to a thief due to their valuable parts, but I assume their complex electrical configurations might make theft harder to get away with.

It’s true that electric cars have many very valuable components and you don’t want to be flippant about security, but your
electric car
may actually be more difficult
to steal
than a gas-powered car.
Buy why are electric cards harder to steal? Here are a few examples:
  • Electric ignitions are more secure. Anyone without a key, pin number, or security code will be unable to start the car.
  • Advanced security means that anything not directly authorized by the owner, such as towing, wil be nearly impossible to accomplish.
  • Charging station locks require the same card to release both ends of the cable, keeping your car securely tethered to the charging station until you get back.
  • Charging cables cannot be cut without exposing the cutter to deadly high voltage.
