Can electric cars be stolen?
Do I need to be worried about parking my electric car on the street at night? I know that electric cars may be particularly desirable to a thief due to their valuable parts, but I assume their complex electrical configurations might make theft harder to get away with.
- Electric ignitions are more secure. Anyone without a key, pin number, or security code will be unable to start the car.
- Advanced security means that anything not directly authorized by the owner, such as towing, wil be nearly impossible to accomplish.
- Charging station locks require the same card to release both ends of the cable, keeping your car securely tethered to the charging station until you get back.
- Charging cables cannot be cut without exposing the cutter to deadly high voltage.
