Can you flat tow a manual transmission car?

I’ve always been a fan of a stick shift in my car. However, I recently bought an RV, and I want to make sure that I can tow a stick-shift vehicle behind it. Is it possible to flat tow a manual transmission car?

It depends. You can usually flat tow a manual transmission car if it has
rear-wheel drive
. You can also flat tow a manual transmission car with four-wheel drive, just so long as it has a two-speed transfer case. To identify if a vehicle has a two-speed transfer case, simply look for a 4-LO setting on your four-wheel-drive selector. In either case, your car needs to be in neutral before you flat tow.
Some front-wheel-drive manual transmission vehicles may also be flat towed, but this isn’t a foregone conclusion. No matter what car you buy, make sure that you read the owner’s manual to find out if your car can be flat towed.
