It makes sense that Jeep has made their Wrangler
models flat towable. Being able to set up camp with your RV and take your Jeep along with you is a great way to explore new trails, no matter how far from home you are. Normally, you’d tow a vehicle with only two wheels on the ground, but flat towing is a method of towing commonly used by RV owners where a smaller vehicle is towed on all four wheels behind a motorhome.
For some vehicles, it’s a terrible idea to flat tow, but Jeep knows its customer base and has ensured that every model of the Jeep Wrangler can be flat towed regardless of transmission type.

. Can you flat tow a Jeep Wrangler with automatic transmission?
Yes! Jeep has made sure that its Wrangler and Gladiator models can be flat towed behind an RV. In fact, flat towing your Jeep Wrangler is recommended above towing with a front or rear wheel lift.
This is special because not just any vehicle can actually safely be flat towed. Many transmissions can be severely damaged from flat towing, but not the Jeep! All you’ll likely have to do is shift your transmission into neutral, and you’ll be able to flat tow your Wrangler.
Obviously, you’ll need an RV that has a high enough towing capacity, to the tune of about 5,000 pounds. A Wrangler packed to the nines with gear could even exceed this number.
How to flat tow a Jeep Wrangler with automatic transmission
Install a tow bar
The first thing you’re going to need to do is set up the proper towing mechanism for your Wrangler. This is a bit of a process, but nothing the average DIYer can’t handle.
You’ll also need a baseplate or specialized bumper to attach a tow bar to the front of your Jeep Wrangler. Some models offer bumpers already equipped with this feature.
You’ll also want an electronic braking system and breakaway kit installed as part of your towing setup. Electronics should also be wired so that the Jeep’s tail lights are connected to your RV’s.
Also note that you should not use clamp-on tow bars on the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, as it could cause damage to the bumper.

Once you’re all set up and connected, you’ll need to put your Jeep Wrangler in tow mode. This is another area where consulting the owner’s manual can never hurt.
You’ll likely need to perform the following actions, but this may vary depending on the model you have:
Depress and hold the brake pedal.
Engage your parking brake.
Shift transfer case lever into Neutral (N)
Shift transmission into Drive (D)
Release the brake pedal and parking brake, making sure the vehicle isn’t moving.
Shut the engine off and place the ignition key into the unlocked OFF position.
Engage the parking brake again
You’ll possibly damage your transmission if you set this up wrong, so definitely read your owner’s manual.
Check your work!
Make sure to do a solid walk-around to make sure that all of your brake lights and turn signals are hooked up properly and in working order.
